Jim Dial and Bob Warnke (Tuesday, November 5, 2pm-4pm)
If you work on late model transmissions, you don’t want to miss this presentation! Jim and Bob team up to provide insight into the root cause of common driveability complaints and unit failures involving late-model vehicles. They will share processes and techniques to first identify and isolate the symptoms associated with various failures and driveability complaints. Then, they will take you directly to areas of concern inside these units that are responsible for the issues, as well as the associated fixes.
Steve Garrett (Tuesday, November 5th, 4pm-6pm)
Diagnosing intermittent vehicle concerns are the most difficult tasks that any shop has to deal with. As more and more electronics are added to vehicles, the need to know where to locate the issue as well as how to test for the concern are paramount in your shop’s success. This course will address the strategies and tools that can be employed to help you attack and intermittent electrical concern no matter the brand of vehicle or which type of vehicle system you are attempting to repair.
Tony Gonyon and Bill Anthony (Wednesday, November 6th, 8am-10am)
This class focuses on the hardware and software needed to perform custom tuning for Ford 6 and 10-speed transmission calibrations. Tony will introduce the hardware, software, and functionality of the tuning tool including its capability to perform OEM level diagnostics. He will also explore tuning Ford 6 and 10-speed units to compensate for common driveability complaints.
Francisco Moreno (Wednesday, November 6, 10am-12pm)
Welcome to the ever-changing world of transmissions. In this class, we’ll explore the latest addition to the ZF transmission line: The Gen IV 8HP. Throughout this class, we’ll investigate its newest features and revisions, comparing them with previous models and highlighting significant changes. Engineers continually strive to push boundaries with major upgrades and the Gen IV 8HP is no exception.
– After completing this training, participants will be able to:
– Identify the major components and sub-systems related to the gen IV 8HP.
– Describe the major differences between the previous models and the new Gen IV.
Have a general understanding of the latest upgrades and how they will affect the current automotive market.
Sean Boyle (Wednesday, November 6th, 12pm-2pm)
Transmissions have become quite complex with advanced electronics and operating strategies. In this session, we will dive deep into the design and operation of common transmissions, such as the GM/Ford 10 speed, GM’s 8L90, and the ZF 9HP. I will also share some results from using Tuning programs used to change the operating strategies along with their direct effect on transmission pressures and timing.
Pepe Torres (Thursday, November 7th, 8am-10am)
This class takes a real-world look at what it takes for transmissions to stand up to high-performance and modified diesel and gasoline engines. This year, we will examine the following:
– A look into 68RFE pressure management and unit modifications.
– 8L90 performance modifications and corresponding software tuning
– Aisin AS68RC and AS69RC modifications to match tuned engine torque
– How to choose the correct torque converter stall RPM and total clutch linings for diesel and gasoline high performance applications.
John Parmenter (Thursday, November 7th, 10am-12noon)
As vehicle systems become more complex, so do problems that come into our shops. We have one of the best in the industry bringing us current problems and fixes. John will walk through real-life cases that he has encountered and will help you navigate from identifying the source of the problem to the solution. He will also cover parts updates and other need-to-know building tips on several transmissions. Be prepared for an immersive, interactive class!
